- Athletics in this school is very popular among all age groups. The club is open to all in the school, encouraging the recreational athlete as well as the competitive athlete to get involved. Athletics training takes place every Wednesday during lunchtime in An Riocht. They practice and take part in a wide variety of events in track and field and cross country. The students take part in many Kerry, Munster and All Ireland competitions throughout the year. We were very successful last year with the students winning Best Overall School in the Kerry Education and Training Board Cross Country Schools Competition. They also won many county and Munster medals during the year.
- Recent Success: On the 16th of January 2015 our students took part in the Kerry Colleges Cross Country in Killarney. The conditions were very wet and the ground was soft and muddy underfoot for the first few races, however the conditions got increasingly more difficult as the afternoon progressed. Despite this we had a very successful day with our intermediate girls finishing in medal positions. Congratulations to all who participated.
- As a school in the heart of Kerry, Gaelic Football is one of the most important games in the school. The school is a football melting pot with many different clubs represented including, Castleisland Desmonds, Currow, Firies, Cordal, Knocknagoshel, Brosna, Ballymacelligott and Dr. Crokes. Both girls and boys at 1st year, u-15, junior and senior level play in Kerry and Munster Schools’ competitions. Games take place throughout the year, with exam students playing games before Christmas and non-exam competitions after Christmas. The school is fortunate to have access to Castleisland Desmonds’ facilities for training and games. We have also recently developed a program with An Riocht which offers player reduced rates to the GYM. Mr. Joy, Mr. Hickie and Mr. Bennett manage the boys’ teams while Miss Buckley, Miss Healy and Miss O’Connor manage the girls.
