The new Junior Cycle began in 2014 with new subject specification for English only. The new framework will be introduced across all schools on a phased basis. Students may study a mixture of subjects and short courses as well as presenting school experiences for certificate purposes.
English, Irish and Maths will be the only compulsory subjects.
Students will then choose from a selection of subjects including:
Science. Geography. History. French. Business Studies. Music. Religion. Oral Irish. Woodwork. Home Economics. Art, Craft and Design. CSPE, SPHE, Study & Exam Skills. Computers/IT. Physical Education and Environmental Studies.
All students will cover the 24 statements of learning as well as developing key skills which will enable them to participate in 21st Century learning. Short courses identified by NCCA will also be offered.
